What Wrestlers & Parents Say

This is the best team I’ve ever been on. I’ve never felt so much support and love from any other team I’ve been on. I look forward every day knowing everyone there is willing to help me and support me. I love this team so much.

Wrestler

I know I lost today, but I felt like such a winner within our team. I love our team!

Wrestler

This team makes me feel like I belong, like I matter. The coaching increases my confidence more and more and pushes me to be a better person and wrestler.

Wrestler

Thank you for always being there for me and pushing me even when I want to quit — you’ve reinforced my mindset to truly never quit.

Wrestler

I hope you know how much I appreciate and care for you. Thank you for being the best coach.

Wrestler

Wrestling has forever changed my life and I’m not sure what I would do without it. These are the best coaches I’ve had in 14 years of being an athlete — so genuine, loving, and caring for their athletes on and off the mat.

Wrestler

I know that failure is really just part of the sport, and I need to accept it and learn from those experiences.

Wrestler

This weekend didn’t go how I wanted, but you kept me going and I learned so much. I’m so thankful you’ve come into my life.

Wrestler

I want to thank you for being such an incredible source of support and kindness to my daughters. You have had a huge impact on them. You are amazing.

Parent

As a first-time wrestling parent, I think you are all doing an outstanding job building an amazing culture of fun, supportiveness, discipline, teamwork, and uplifting these young women and helping them feel valued. It really is a breath of fresh air.

Parent

Thank you so much for all the open mats and for helping me improve over the summer.

Mission Statement

Everything we do is for each other, for women’s wrestling, and for women’s sports everywhere. On the mat, we fight for our teammates. Off the mat, we grow the sport for the next generation of girls.

Our purpose is bigger than ourselves. Our mission is greater than any one person. We lift each other up, make everyone feel included, and remind each other that we belong.

We buy in. We give everything for our teammates. We are strongest when we invest in our team and our shared goals.

Every single day—we show up, we fight, and we do what is best—For Her.

Holmen Women’s Wrestling
Our culture

For Her

Our pillars define how we train, compete, lead, and support one another.

🎉 FunCreate a fun, positive, and relaxed environment so it’s a better environment for her.
🤝 For HerHold each other accountable, accept everyone, and fight for your teammates. Show up every day for the growth of women’s sports and the youth girls, and do your best for her.
🎯 AmbitionDemonstrate qualities that help in all areas of life: be eager to learn, coachable, and willing to do extra. Be a good person, be on time, do well in school, and be a good teammate for her.
🧠 Elite MindsetRefuse to lose. Stay positive, learn from mistakes, and focus on the process over the outcome. Make small improvements every day, stay confident, persevere, and brush off adversity. Help her have an elite mindset by having one yourself — refuse to lose for her.
🧭 LeadershipGuide our team in a positive way, commit to helping it succeed, and take satisfaction in your teammates’ success. Help her achieve her goals for her.
📈 ImprovementShow improvement, especially on the mat, in ways that reflect our philosophy. Improve so the team is better for her.

New wrestlers

You do not need experience to start.

Most of our high school wrestlers didn’t start until high school — including our own state finalists and placewinners — though girls can start wrestling girls at the youth and middle school levels too. Girls only wrestle girls in practice and competition, there’s no requirement to lose weight or hit a certain weight class, and a singlet isn’t required if you’d rather wear something else. Come try it out — it’s more fun than you think.
